Omaha Beach Seeing "Saving private Ryan" in the cinema gave us the idea
of this diorama. although making a diorama of
an action scene is harder than "men standing around not doing anything" we
set ourselves the challenge. At the time there weren't a lot of Yank figures
around at affordable prices so the then new Tamiya GI in "battle action"
were used many times, along with any other GI that we had in our bits box.
The landingcarft was made out of plasiccard and some odds and ends. It might
not be 100% accurate, but as with all our models, as long as it looks cool
we use it. The
firm and is made in layers (a right pig of a kit, and making one from scratch would have been easier..) The men are Dragon, Tamiya, Verlinden, all converted to suit our needs. The sandbags were made of plastacine and then covered with PVA. The sand is real sand dried and glued down with watered down PVA.
Before and After: Well years have past and taken there toll on the models so in June 2007 I returned the model to glory. ground reworked, figures added and omitted and more details added. Here the before and after pictures:
